My Independence Day Speech at Church Park - Patriotism: What it means to you?
I was invited to Church Park for addressing the students and teachers on the 60th Independence Day Celebrations. Every time when the flag is hoisted and we salute in front of it, wow it is an AMAZING feeling! Here is my actual speech. You will find the definition of Patriotism. If you want to hear what I spoke do click the link below the script and download the audio:
“Very good morning to all. It is a great previlege to me here in front of you all today – On the 60th year celebration of the Indian Independence. As I am standing in front of you all, what runs in mind is the same set of days when I was in my school, when I was like you all I was in front of this flag, feeling great about being an Indian. Definitely I was very happy on those day. There were actually two reasons - one it is the independence day of ours and other because it is a HOLIDAY!!
What this day is all about? If you have define this day with one single word – What it is? It is PATRIOTISM. What is Patriotism? It is love for the country. You all love our country? (Children: Yes!).
The definition of this word Patriotism is different today compared to what it was 60 years back. 60 years back what Patriotism means? If somebody says I am patriotic, what they must do. You have to step out of the house and really fight for the country But today what is the definition? Today it means ‘You have to do what you are suppose to do, with lot of love, commitment, and passion. What do I mean by passion? Love toward what you do. If you are teacher you must have to be totally committed. If you are a student, and if you want to do something for our country, participate 100% in what you do. Be totally committed in what you do.
If you check any country who are progressing much faster than what we are today, because in India as you were depicting in your songs and dance, one side we see great developments, other side people are struggling with poverty and children don’t have a school to go after 60 years of independence.
How it is possible for certain other countries to grow rapidly. It is possible because people are totally committed. Only one message I have for you today is If you want to do something for the country be totally committed in what you do - you coming to the school, you doing your assignment, homework understand the fact that you are not doing it for the sake of your teachers, your parents, you are doing it for yourself!
Why I say this? I train over 6000-7000 children from over 40 different Nationalities in a year through OnlySuccess Superbkids/Superbteens training. You know one of the common question I ask most of the students? Why you do all these work, all related to school? You know the most popular answer from most of them?
Otherwise my mom will scold me, my dad will scold me, my teacher will punish me! But what I want you to under stand is you are not doing your assignments and homework for the sake of parents or teachers. You have to do it If you have to be successful , you have to participate 100% in what you do. It is not just one day we celebrate our Independence day and get back to work.
If you want do really do something for the country do this:
You must have to start loving your school,
You must have to start loving your teachers,
You must have to start loving your subjects,
You must have to start loving your exams.
Really, if you have to do well your exams you must really love it.
Happy independence. Once again thanks a lot and it a great privilege to be here with you all today.”

The definition of patriotism that you gave was wonderful. It is really true that in order to be more successful we have to participate 100%. Defentily by being more committed in whatever we do we are actually involved in the growth of our country. Also we make our country proud.
Thanks
Vishnu
